Buffalo, NY (WBEN) A former Buffalo Police officer fired more than a decade ago is claiming retaliation, not inability to pay rent as the reason for her eviction from BMHA housing.
Cariol Horne says she was fired in 2008 after speaking out about police misconduct in the beating of Neal Mack two years earlier. "I tried to make payment arrangements. I think it's a constant attack and I blame Mayor Brown," says Horne. She says she was charged and convicted of trespassing on a court date, and the BMHA refused to accept her payments from others as she had started a job out of town.
Horne was recently evicted from Kenfield-Langfield Apartments. She admits she didn't pay rent, but was trying to make arrangements. "I've come to try to make arrangements and I did miss a payment. It's about retaliation, not rent," claims Horne.
Horne says the BMHA wanted her to come in person to explain and make the arrangements. She says she couldn't because of her new job in the Carolinas.
