TONAWANDA (WBEN) - On Friday afternoon, healthcare workers and union members held a silent protest outside of Safire Rehabilitation of the Northtowns to share concerns about their apparent lack of personal protective equipment.
"We are having a silent protest with our members who work here over the lack of PPE and safety protection for the workers, caregivers and the residents," said Todd Hobler, vice president of 1199SEIU for the Western New York Nursing Home Division.
"The employer here, an out of town operator, has not made it a priority to provide the PPE and the training to use them, safety protections, communications and protocols that are necessary to keep our members and the residents here safe."
The owners of Safire did not provide a response to the workers concerns.
