BUFFALO (WBEN) - Anabec Systems, a company based in Western New York, now has an EPA-registered product called Anasphere Plus, which has been approved as a confirmed killer of the human coronavirus.
"We believe this product is the best on the market in response to the COVID-19 outbreak," said Richard Bruno II, the president of distributor Sartivite LLC, who has partnered with Anabec Systems on this project. "We are ready to distribute worldwide to mitigate the pandemic."
The product is easy aerosolize or mist with simple equipment, meaning it's best designed to be used commercially. According to Anabec Systems President Nancy Ewing, Anasphere Plus works by destabilizing the virus cell membrane, which leads to cell death. It attracts the virus, sort of similar to how a magnet works, and then kills it on contact.
"It is positively engineered to attack the negatively charged pathogens," she said.
However, while it's clear that many would want a product like this in their homes, right now Anasphere Plus is only produced for commercial use. Sartivite is talking with commercial contractors about innovative application technologies to help spread the product faster and more efficiently with the hope of being able to reach any indoor surface.
"This is an application for the surface," said Bruno. "This product has been used in hospitals, nursing homes, military bases, restaurants, hotels and movie theaters across the country."
When asked about a facility such as KeyBank Center as a location for possible use, Ewing said it's a perfect example of where Anasphere Plus would work best, and Bruno is confident that they have the production capacity to fulfill any order.
"Consider it as a vaccine for the surface," said Ewing. "It's a really wonderful opportunity to help with this incredible outbreak."
