Olivo says the system only works where a surveillance camera can be legally placed, and Lockport schools have already had surveillance for 20 years. "It's not replacing cameras where they already are. Anyplace the surveillance cameras can legally be is where the system will be on that camera. Only the image of the unwanted person or threat is what they'll look for," says Olivo.
Olivo says student or staff information will not be collected and won't be stolen. "The only way a student's information is in the system is if they're prohibited from being in the school. Then and only then would they be in the system. It's not an internet based program so it can't be hacked," says Olivo.
Olivo adds when there is an alert, it goes to a live individual. "They then match the image with that in the database, and they're the ones who will say yes or no, there's a threat. There's a human element to this alert," notes Olivo.
