More strong winds expected this weekend in WNY

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - High winds will be in the forecast this weekend for most of Western New York.

The National Weather Service has a high wind warning which takes effect at 7 p.m. Saturday to 11 p.m. Sunday for Southern Erie and Chautauqua Counties. A separate high wind warning takes effect at 11 a.m. Sunday for Niagara, Orleans, Northern Erie, Genesee, and Monroe Counties.

Wind gusts will peak at 60 miles per hour for both storms.

HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM EST THIS EVENING TO 11 PM EDT SUNDAY

* LOCATIONS...Chautauqua and Southern Erie counties, especially the lower terrain near Lake Erie.

* TIMING...From early this evening through late Sunday evening.

* WINDS...South 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.

* IMPACTS...Strong wind gusts could bring down trees and powerlines and result in scattered power outages. Minor property damage is also possible, especially to roofs and siding. Travel in high profile vehicles will be difficult at times. This will especially be the case along the New York State Thruway, which runs perpendicular to the forecast high winds.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... High winds of 58 mph or greater will make driving difficult and could result in property damage, including downed trees and power lines. Scattered power outages are expected. Home owners should secure loose objects.

* WINDS...Southwest 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.

* IMPACTS...Strong wind gusts could bring down trees and powerlines and result in scattered power outages. Minor property damage is also possible, especially to roofs and siding. Travel in high profile vehicles will be difficult at times.
