Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - Changes will be coming for NFTA-Metro riders to enhance safety on public transit.
The changes that will limit ridership in some cases were announced Wednesday.
Beginning this week, NFTA buses will have a limit of 15 passengers at a time, and will include new signage that promotes social and physical distancing.
Because of the passenger limit, there will be additional buses running on the busy 19 Bailey route.
“I’m thankful for the protections provided for drivers,” said County Legislator April Baskin, who pushed for further changes. “Their safety and health is crucial to a functional transportation system during this worldwide heath crisis. We also have to take similar measures for the riders who rely on public transportation as a means to survive.”
The NFTA will also be looking into the possibility of installing plastic shields between seats, and hand sanitizer stations at bus stops.
