BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Drivers on the 290 in Tonawanda on Wednesday may have noticed something missing.
The Paddock Golf Dome deflated early Wednesday morning.
Golfers looking to get into the dome to practice their game haven't been able to get in there since May because the dome typically closes during the summer months. Campanella said the dome will be re-inflated sometime in September with it open publicly again in November. The dome is normally open from October to May.
The Grill and Pro Shop inside the building that leads into the dome are still open while the dome is deflated.
This isn't the first time that the Paddock Golf Dome was deflated but it was the first time it was done in a controlled setting. The last time it deflated was in 2006 during the "October Surprise" storm, when two feet of lake effect snow caused the power to go out at the dome.
"That was due to not having a backup generator for the inflator," Campanella said. "We've learned our lesson from that and since bought another inflator. Both have backup generators. She's lasted."
