
SANBORN, N.Y. (WBEN) - Michael Mann, the principal at Niagara Wheatfield High School, has resigned according to a statement from the district.
Mann was under fire since parents learned a student who admitted to raping another who attends the high school was allowed to be in the building for classes last year. The incident happened last summer off campus and was not during a school-related event.
"Mr. Mann has submitted his resignation, so we will be commencing a search for a new high school principal," a statement from the district said. "Mr. White, who has served as acting principal this school year, will continue in his leadership role as interim principal until our search for a new principal is complete...We look forward to finding a strong and experienced candidate who will be an excellent fit for Niagara Wheatfield High School and the District."

Mann was placed on administrative leave in June following outrage from the school community that was highlighted by a walkout by more than 100 students on May 31.
