NORTH TONAWANDA (WBEN - Brendan Keany) - In what was made out to be a "no brainer" kind of decision for the North Tonawanda City Council, officials have approved permits to allow filmakers of "A Quiet Place 2," starring John Krasinski, to shoot scenes at Stenzil Field.
"It's an amazing opportunity for the city," said City Clerk/Treasurer Matt Parish. "It's not often that we would get this type of exposure from such a major motion picture company, and there are a lot of communities that will never get this opportunity, so it's incredible. I think a big part of that, honestly, is due to the fact that we're progressing so much as far as our development and everything else, and North Tonawanda is kind of being put on the map a little bit as a Buffalo suburb...so, just to even be thought of by Paramount is amazing."
However, Paramount and city officials are tight-lipped on exactly what's going on. In fact, Parish is only allowed to release a little bit of information, essentially the minimum, for the specific plans of the shooting.
"I can't say too much about it because there was a confidentiality agreement signed between our attorney's office and Paramount," Parish said. "They are basically requesting to use Stenzil Field to film the movie - that's really about the extent of the information that we know right now."
While he wouldn't say specifcally when the shooting will take place, he noted that it will happen some time in September.
As a major fan of John Krasinski's work, Parish is pretty excited that the entertainment star will be in North Tonawanda.
"For me personally, I'm a huge 'The Office' fan, and I think anybody who has ever worked in an office setting can relate to 'The Office,' and the show is hysterical, and I love John Krasinski, so on a personal standpoint, that's amazing," he said. "Just in general, I can see a lot of businesses maybe using this to promote their business and maybe get him to come visit some of the places in NT, and it's just a great opportunity."
