Amherst, NY (WBEN) - A four-month long process to make a stretch of Niagara Falls Boulevard begins this week.

Construction between the I-290 and Tonawanda Creek Road will see the Northbound right lane of Niagara Falls Boulevard closed beginning Tuesday morning as crews work to install new lights along the road to illuminate the area.

The project comes after numerous pedestrian deaths over the course of five years forced the State Department of Transportation to conduct a study on ways to make the road safer.

Work each day is expected to begin at 4:00am and wrap up around Noon. The far right lane of the Northbound Niagara Falls Boulevard will be closed.

Motorists are advised to obey the posted speed limit within the work zone.
