Josh Allen named AFC Offensive Player of the Week

It is the third time this season and 18th time in Allen's career he has earned the weekly honor

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550/WBEN) - Following a strong second-half outing by the Buffalo Bills in a 39-34 come-from-behind victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, a key element to the win earned another weekly honor from the NFL.

For the third time this season, Bills quarterback Josh Allen has earned AFC Player of the Week honors. It is the 18th time in his career the reigning NFL MVP has earned the weekly honor from the league.

Allen finished his afternoon with 329 total yards of offense and four touchdowns. Through the air, he completed 22-of-28 pass attempts for 251 yards and three touchdowns, while he recorded 78 yards rushing and one touchdown - a 40-yard burst down the field in the fourth quarter.

The 29-year-old recorded his 11th career game with three-or-more passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown, which is the most in NFL history.

Allen was also named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performances in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens and Week 11 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Another Bills player that could have earned Player of the Week honors from the NFL this week was cornerback Christian Benford, who finished Sunday's game with a sack and a pivotal pick-six that completely swung the momentum in Buffalo's favor in the fourth quarter. Instead, the honor of AFC Defensive Player of the Week ended up going to former Bills cornerback Rasul Douglas, who is now with the Miami Dolphins.

Benford was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 13 for his performance in a 26-7 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The only other Bills player to earn Player of the Week honors this season is running back James Cook, who earned it in a Week 8 win over the Carolina Panthers.
