BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) – Major League Baseball's tenure in Buffalo came to an anti-climactic end Wednesday with a 7-4 victory by the Boston Red Sox over the Toronto Blue Jays at Sahlen Field.
The game Wednesday was the final game the Blue Jays will play in Buffalo. Toronto played the bulk of its home games in Western New York due to the Canada's restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
While Wednesday marked the official end of the big-league era in Buffalo, fans we spoke with at Wednesday's game were largely appreciative about the impact the Blue Jays had during their tenure in Buffalo.
"I'm remembering all the fun times," Jacob from Amherst said. "The first time they came here, you couldn't even get in. I looked around and took pictures around all the place at Swan Street and everything. It's sad."
Suzanne from Buffalo went to several home games this season. She told us she was from born in Toronto but spent most of her life in Buffalo.
"I'm kind of happy for the people in Toronto," Suzanne said. "About 50 staff members came down with the team. The trainers and grounds crew and stuff like that. They just want to go home and the players want to play in front of their own fans. I feel mostly happy for them that they got to this point."
Toronto will finish their home season in Canada and are scheduled to play their first game in nearly two years at Rogers Centre on July 30. The Buffalo Bisons have not played a game at Sahlen Field in more than 700 days and are scheduled to return on August 10.
