Sabres buck losing skid with seven-goal outburst against Canadiens

Buffalo gets back in the win column in a big way with a 7-2 win in Montreal

Montreal, Quebec (WGR 550/WBEN) - Staring an eight-game losing streak in the face, the Buffalo Sabres brought their best efforts with them to the Bell Centre in Montreal on Wednesday night. Seven goals against Jake Allen and co. helped the blue and gold crush the Montreal Canadiens, 7-2.

If you blinked, you missed a bunch during the first three minutes of this affair.

The Sabres scored a flurry of goals - three to be exact - inside the first 2:13 against Allen. Rasmus Dahlin, JJ Peterka and Alex Tuch all netted goals in succession against a dazed Montreal squad.

The Canadiens had a quick answer, as forward Cole Caufield fired a one-timer in past Sabres goalie Craig Anderson just 2:57 to get the home team on the board. The goal was Caufield's 12th of the season.

Things cooled down in the scoring department until the midway point of the second period. That's when the Sabres' top line went to work in an impressive way.

The trio of Tuch, Tage Thompson and Jeff Skinner teamed up for a nifty scoring play to expand Buffalo's lead back to three, 4-1. It was Skinner who ended up finishing off a nice pass from Thompson to the front of the Canadiens net.

Montreal did get a goal back before the end of the stanza, when first-year Canadiens forward Sean Monahan rammed home his own rebound to make it 4-2, Sabres.

Buffalo's offensive onslaught continued in the third period, as they, again, scored in quick succession to quiet the Bell Centre faithful.

In just about three minutes' time, both Henri Jokiharju and Thompson potted nifty goals against an overmatched Allen to make it a 6-2 contest. For Jokiharju, it was his first of the season, while Thompson netted his 13th, as he continues to prove that the 2021-22 season was no fluke.

With a little over five minutes to play in the game, Skinner sent home his second goal of the night on the power play, giving Buffalo the extra point to make it a 7-2 Sabres lead.
