The early morning theft of restaurateur and civic leader Russ Salvatore's beloved Bentley convertible marks the second in the past few weeks he has been a crime victim.

And, Salvatore thinks the two incidents may be related.

Recently someone broke into Salvatore's Lancaster office and stole nearly $40,000 in cash - and, he believes, the keys to his power blue 2017 Bentley.

"They must have planned it," Salvatore said.

The two incidents has Salvatore feeling frustrated, mad and wondering why he was targeted?

"What could anyone gain by stealing my car?," Salvatore asked.

Salvatore is not alone.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports - on average, 1,900 vehicles are stolen every day. That comes out to a vehicle stolen once every 37 seconds.

Salvatore's Bentley was stolen around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, according surveillance videos around his restaurant, Russell's Steaks, Chops & More.

Salvatore was called around 6 a.m. by a co-worker who wondered where the car was and if he lent it out to a friend.

The Lancaster police were contacted and Salvatore posted an item on Facebook lamenting the missing Bentley.

Within minutes, the car was spotted - parked on Humboldt Parkway on Buffalo's East Side.

The Bentley was largely unharmed - save for the missing keys. A new set has been ordered.

In the meantime, the Lancaster police - with help from the Buffalo police - are continuing to investigate.

Meanwhile, Salvatore said despite the two criminal acts, he remains dedicated to Buffalo and will continue his philanthropic ways.

"I'll do that until my dying day," Salvatore said.
