(WBEN) - New poll numbers from Siena Research show Governor Kathy Hochul with a double digit lead over both potential Republican candidates in next year's Gubernatorial election.

Hochul holds a 19 point lead over Congresswoman Elise Stefanik and a 25 point lead over Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, who declared his candidacy last week.

"Hochul has the support of more than three quarters of Democrats against either Republican," Siena pollster Steve Greenberg said, in a statement. "With independents, Hochul leads Blakeman by 10 points and Stefanik by seven points.”

Those numbers assume a Hochul victory in the Democratic primary, where among registered Democrats Hochul leads Lt. Governor Antonio Delgado 56-13%.

OTHER NOTES

Strong Support for Free Universal Childcare
“While a small majority of Republicans opposes free universal childcare, paid for by increasing taxes on those New Yorkers earning more than $1 million, it is supported by four in five Democrats, and independents support it two-to-one,” Greenberg said. “It is supported upstate and downstate, and other than Republicans and conservatives, it is supported by a majority – often an overwhelming majority – of every demographic group."

Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s favorability rating remains underwater, 36-49%

For only the second time this year, a narrow plurality of voters thinks New York State is on the right track, rather than headed in the wrong direction, 44-41%, up from 39-45% in November.
