Amherst, N.Y. (WBEN) Amherst police say a 70-year-old woman was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash Saturday evening near the intersection of Kensington Avenue and Harlem Road.

The crash occurred about 6 p.m., according to police. Officers said the driver, a 57-year-old woman operating a Jeep Compass, fled the scene after striking the victim.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police later located the suspected driver at her home in Cheektowaga and took her into custody. She is charged with vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash.

The investigation is ongoing. Police are asking anyone with security camera or dash-camera footage from the area or the incident to call 716-689-1311.
