
Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Wegmans announced on Thursday that all stores in the Buffalo and Rochester area, as well as in Erie, Pennsylvania will close for a half hour on Monday, April 8 for the Total Solar Eclipse.
The grocery store chain says it will allow employees at stores in the Path of Totality for the eclipse to leave their jobs and stores to be able to enjoy the viewing experience.
In total, 48 Wegmans stores throughout Upstate New York and in Erie, Pa. will close. During that time, all services, including pharmacy, grocery, Meals2Go pickup and delivery will be unavailable.
"The opportunity to experience a Total Solar Eclipse comes once in a lifetime, and we don't want our employees to miss out," said Patrick Bourcy, Wegmans regional manager. "We appreciate all that our employees do to help our customers prepare for and enjoy events like this, and in return, we welcome the opportunity to make this a celebratory and memorable occasion for them."
All 11 Buffalo area stores will be part of the closure, as will Wegmans stores in Erie, Rochester, Syracuse, Finger Lakes, and Hornell areas.
