Niagara Falls, N.Y. (WBEN) - An arrest has been made in a vandalism spree at Niagara Falls High School and the district's fieldhouse. The suspect is in the alternative program.
Superintendent Mark Laurrie says the district has been dealing with vandalism for neatly two months. "we've been dealing with an individual who has been vandalizing, breaking windows both at our Field House and on some of our maintenance vehicles, as well as throwing paint on the door and windows of our high school, and last Thursday, left a threatening note about blowing up the high school and shooting students," says Laurrie. He says the student is in the district's alternative program.
Laurrie says the suspect will face at least eight charges of criminal mischief and one charge of an act of terrorism, which is a felony against the individual who is under the age of 16. "I have not been able to speak, to speak to the police yet as to whether he confessed just to the actions, or if he confessed to the reason. I can't think of any reasonable explanation for why this could have occurred. There are so many outlets we have to share your anger or disapproval of something," says Laurrie.
Damage is estimated at $18,000.
