Buffalo Diocese makes closing recommendations for Southern Erie

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Buffalo Diocese announced their latest round of closure recommendations Thursday night at a meeting in Lake View, focusing on worship sites in Southern Erie County.

The full list is below:


- St. John XXIII in West Seneca
- St. John Vianney in Orchard Park
- St. Josaphat in Cheektowaga
- Resurrection in Cheektowaga
- Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta in Depew
- St. Martha in Depew (school will stay open)
- Queen of Angels in Lackawanna
- Our Mother of Good Counsel in Blasdell
- St. Anthony in Lackawanna
- Our Lady of Bistrica in Lackawanna
- St. Bernadette in Orchard Park
- St. Anthony in Farnham
- St. Mary of the Lake in Hamburg

The full list of church closures announced across all vicariates is now approaching 80. The full list will be finalized by Sept. 1.

Parishes have until July 15 to make a counter proposal or accept the recommendations.

Some churches have already been meeting to discuss ways to save their parishes.
