Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - After spending more than one year scouting various Western New York sites, Hamilton, Ontario-based Daich Coatings has put the former SetterStix plant in the Village of Cattaraugus under contract, with the expectations of starting its first U.S. operations there by the end of this year.

The deal is considered a major economic development win for Cattaraugus, and was sealed thanks to a series of tax breaks being offered by the County of Cattaraugus Industrial Development Agency.

"We consider it a huge win," said Corey Wiktor, County of Cattaraugus IDA executive director. "A win on many levels."

Daich expects to employ 25 people initially, and will be taking a 60,000-square-foot South Main Street building that has sat vacant since 2021 after SetterStix relocated to South Carolina.

"Finding someone to take over that building was a main priority," Wiktor said.

What sold Daich on the SetterStix building was economic upswing in Cattaraugus County.

"There were a lot of synergies that caught their attention," Wiktor said.

Daich was brought to the county by Cushman & Wakefield/Pyramid Brokerage of Buffalo's Richard Schecter.

"We have a great relationship with Rich," Wiktor said.

Daich makes high-end paints and decorative stone coatings. Its products are sold in such retail outlets as Home Depot, Lowe's and Canadian Tire. The company will be remain headquartered in Hamilton.

Because of the Daich deal, Wiktor says he has been approached by two Toronto-based companies that may also want to open their initial U.S. operations in Cattaraugus County.

"One deal is opening the door for others," Wiktor said.
