AMHERST, N.Y. (WBEN)...Steve May knows the day is coming.
That day, when it costs more than $60 to fill his late model Jeep.
"Thirty dollars used to fill my car, now it only half fills my car," May lamented.
May is not alone.
Consumers across the Buffalo Niagara region - and, across the country for that matter - are dealing with rising gas prices, which come on top of already increased food and utility costs.
"Tell me about it," said Alex (who declined to give his last name) and drives a four-door Lincoln.
"How much longer will it be before it costs me 90 bucks to fill up this car," Alex said.
That day may be on the horizon.
Consider: One year ago, gas costs about $3.05 a gallon according to the AAA Western and Central New York.
As of May 4th, it was $4.41 a gallon and that price rose 25 cents in just one week.
Current prices at the highest since June 2022, when it was $4.91 a gallon.
Coming soon: Gas costing $5 a gallon, or more, analysts say.
"It is definitely impacting my budget," said George Craben.
Craben has taken a second job, just to pencil out rising costs.
There some solutions, says the AAA's Elizabeth Carey.
Carey suggests mapping out your route to cut down on unnecessary travel.
Even using cruise control on highways can save on gas consumption and, removing unneeded heavy items from your trunk.
"We know people are frustrated, but there are things you can do," Carey said.
