Amherst, N.Y. (WBEN) - Dan Gagliardo earned the GOP nomination for Amherst Town Supervisor on Tuesday night with his win in the Republican primary. He will now continue his campaign all the way through November where he will face deputy town supervisor Shawn Lavin in the general election.

With the endorsement from Amherst Republicans, Gagliardo expressed his thanks to his family, donors, and members of his campaign team.

"We have to start saying 'we', 'us', 'them', everybody," said Gagliardo during his victory speech Tuesday night. "That's what we have to do. We're the bigger party don't forget it."

Gagliardo highlights his campaign as "purple", and reiterated his enthusiasm to better a town he has been a part of his entire life. The campaign's main focus is on transparency, fiscal responsibility, and progress for Amherst. Main points of emphasis for Gagliardo includes the Boulevard Mall, street light replacements, Station Twelve, and Westwood Country Club.

"This is just the first step. Now we take it to November, and I'm looking forward to the fight with Shawn," Gagliardo continued.

As for Lavin, he has been a member of the Amherst Town Board since 2017, and officially announced his campaign back in February.

"I'm excited to share my message with voters come November, and I think it's going to be a real good race, competitive race," said Lavin in an interview with WBEN.

He feels his experience already working in local government and in the military are going to separate himself from Gagliardo come the general election.
