
(WBEN) - Erie County deputies are investigating a fatal boating accident after rescuers pulled the body of a man from the Niagara River early Saturday.
First responders were called to the river near Grass Island around 12:40 a.m., according to the North Tonawanda Fire Department. In a post on Facebook, the department said crews were called to assist in locating a person who had gone overboard. The man was found about 40 minutes later.
A spokesperson for the Erie County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the death to WBEN in a brief statement.
“We are investigating the death of an adult male who fell into the Niagara River just after midnight this morning. A more detailed press release will be shared this evening,” the spokesperson said.
