LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WBEN) – The individuals involved in the killing of Cheyenne Farewell last October were sentenced Thursday in Niagara County Court.
Shawn Johnson, the adolescent offender who shot and killed Farewell at a house party on October 17, will spend anywhere from 20 years to life in prison. He pleaded guilty to second degree murder, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon, and two counts of assault.
Another youthful offender, who was not identified, was sentenced to 16 months to four years in prison. The third defendant, Jonathan Frey, an adult who drove a vehicle to the scene, will spend up to four years for hindering the prosecution.
Farewell was attending a Halloween party with friends when gunfire rang through a closed, metal garage door. Six people were shot. Farewell died while being taken to the hospital. She was a student at SUNY Brockport and had graduated from Medina High School.
"This case was a complex and tragic incident ably investigated by the Lockport Police Department," Niagara County District Attorney Brian Seaman said in a statement. "The sentencing of these individuals in this sad chapter of Lockport's History to an end. It is my hope that it will also bring some sense of closure to the victims and their families who will continue to suffer greatly."
