Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Despite a blue wave in many of Tuesday's elections in places like Amherst, Buffalo, Cheektowaga and North Tonawanda, there were Republican wins in Hamburg and Orchard Park.
Voters, by a very narrow margin, elected Beth Farrell Lorentz as Hamburg Town Supervisor and voted in two Republican council members, Lynne Dixon and Nicholas Ortiz.
Farrell-Lorentz beat Democratic challenger Bob Reynolds by 43% to 42%, a difference of 111 votes.
"111 is what I'm hearing as well," said Farrell-Lorentz with WBEN on Wednesday. "We had a write in candidate, and I think that contributed to the narrow win."
Farrell-Lorentz is looking forward to working with a like-minded board.
"Our board is going to be a terrific team that will work together in the best interests of the town. We may have different ideas but we're all going to be willing to sit down and talk," Farrell-Lorentz said.
The biggest challenges facing the Town of Hamburg include developing the stadium impact area, revitalizing areas such as the McKinley Mall, and providing quality services that residents depend on.
In Orchard Park, it was also a Republican sweep as Joe Liberti was elected Town Supervisor with 60% of the vote. Julia Mombrea and Gregory Bennett won seats on the Town Board.
