North Tonawanda, N.Y. (WBEN) - North Tonawanda has re-elected Mayor Austin Tylec for another four-year term.

Tylec defeated former Police Chief Tom Krantz with over 67% of the vote on Tuesday, earning about 2,000 more votes than he did in his 2021 victory.

"We worked hard the last four years," said Tylec with WBEN on Wednesday. "The people of our community saw through the smears from the opposition, they liked what they've seen the last four years, and I think they're excited about the next four years."

Tylec told WBEN his administration would continue to focus on cleaning neighborhood blight and infrastructure projects.

The enthusiasm for Tylec seemed to spread down-ballot. Democrats in North Tonawanda swept all four Council seats up for election, beating three Republican incumbents.

"Changes on the council, it seems a little surreal, It's still a lot to process," Tylec said. "The fact that my administration was able to accomplish what we did with maybe a not so cooperative council is significant. If we were able to do what we did in the last four years, I can imagine we could do 10 times more the next four years."

Still, Tylec said he's not paying attention to any talk of a "blue wave" in North Tonawanda.

"The people that won last night are individuals. There is no party control over these individuals," Tylec said. "It's just people that care about our community and what I'm excited about is that I know that they are willing to work."
