Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Volunteers from Eight Days of Hope, a Christian non-profit with ties to Buffalo, are helping with recovery efforts following devastating tornadoes that swept through central Tennessee this past weekend.
Hannah Fletcher, Safe House Ministry Director for Eight Days of Hope joined Brian Mazurowski and Susan Rose on A New Morning Wednesday to talk about relief efforts.
Though the Eight Days of Hope Team is well-staffed for this mission, she encourages anyone in Western New York that wants to help to reach out to the organization.
"If you're in Western New York and you're looking for a way to get plugged in, we'd love to get you trained so you can go on a future outreach with us," Fletcher says. Fletcher also called for prayers from Western New Yorkers.
When surrounded by so much rubble, a group of people willing to help can be a welcome site for those who had their homes and memories taken by Mother Nature.
Fletcher says having the ability to help those individuals is rewarding.
"You know that you're not just helping clean out a home. You're saving memories, you're touching a life, you're making a lasting impact by bringing hope."
Fletcher has a unique perspective on assisting those in need. As a young girl her family lost eighty percent of their home following a pipe burst.
"You think about things a little bit differently when you go something like that, where people say 'oh you can get a new this, you can get a new that'. Well it means something totally different when it's your stuff, and right now it's their stuff on the curb."
