Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A retired Buffalo Police officer admits to firing at juveniles he suspected of stealing from vehicles.

67-year-old Antonio Roman pleaded guilty to assault and reckless endangerment charges, as his non-jury trial was scheduled to start on Tuesday.

Nearly a year ago on Feb. 8, Roman saw a group of juveniles in the parking lot of Marine Drive Apartments, and suspected they were stealing from vehicles. Roman shot one in the leg with his legally owned handgun.

Prosecutors say the group drove off in a vehicle, reported to be stolen out of Amherst. The victim, a 14-year-old boy, underwent surgery at Oishei Children's Hospital.

Roman faces a maximum of seven years in prison when he is sentenced on Wednesday, May 14. He remains released on previously posted bail.
