Former UB student sentenced for inciting a riot

Newburg student admits to posting social media post against UB demonstration

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A former student of the University at Buffalo from downstate has been sentenced to a conditional discharge for pleading guilty to inciting a riot against those taking part in a demonstration at North Campus last year.

The student was 18 at the time when he issued the post directed at those who were participating in a demonstration organized by the Jewish Student Union at UB North in Amherst. The student was attending UB at the time of the incident, was identified and issued an appearance ticket to be arraigned on a later date.

The defendant pleaded guilty to one count of Inciting to Riot (Class “A” misdemeanor), the highest sustainable charge, back on Feb. 27.

The conditional discharge is for one year.
