
Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - USA Hockey announced its roster for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games on Saturday during the second intermission of the 2022 NHL Winter Classic in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Of the 23 players named to the United States' women's roster on Saturday, 13 of them are returning from the 2018 team that won Olympic gold in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Two other players on the roster return to the U.S. team that have prior Olympic experience in 2014 when the tournament was held in Sochi, Russia.
Of the eight remaining players that will make their first appearance in the Olympic Games this February, one player will be representing the Western New York region.
Getzville native Hayley Scamurra is heading to Beijing to play for the red, white and blue after a prominent stretch of play over the past few years at the international and the professional level.
After graduating Northeastern University in 2017 and being named the Best Defensive Forward in the Women's Hockey East Association as a senior, Scamurra made the jump to the, then, National Women's Hockey League, where she parts of three seasons playing with her hometown Buffalo Beauts.
In her time spent with the Beauts, Scamurra was over a point per-game player with 35 points (18+17) in 31 games. During the 2018-19 season, Scamurra led the entire NWHL in regular season scoring with 20 points (10+10) in 16 games played.
Scamurra also helped contribute to the Beauts' lone Isobel Cup championship in 2017 right after she graduated college, where she scored a goal and three assists in two playoff games. She helped Buffalo get back to the Isobel Cup Final again over the next two seasons, where the Beauts fell short of winning again.
The 27-year-old forward is no stranger to representing the United States for international competition. She has been named to the U.S. roster for the International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World Championship for the past three years, winning gold in 2019 and silver in 2021. The 2020 tournament that was originally set to take place in Halifax was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
During her career with Team USA in international competition, Scamurra has appeared in 27 games, scoring four goals and adding five assists for nine points.
Scamurra has also represented the U.S. at the 2019 and 2020 Rivalry Series, as well as the 2021 My Why Tour.
In addition to her playing career, Scamurra has served as a coach for the Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles 19U girls team in 2019-20.
Among the notable names representing the United States at the 2022 Winter Olympics include Hilary Knight, who will dress for her fourth Olympics after playing in the 2018-2014 and 2010 games. Players like Kendall Coyne-Schofield, Brianna Decker, Amanda Kessel and Lee Stecklein also return for their third stint with the U.S. Olympic team.
