Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown Friday appointed Joseph Gramaglia as Commissioner of the Buffalo Police Department.
The appointment comes a day after the retirement of Byron Lockwood after a 38-year career with BPD.
Deputy Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia is a 25-year veteran of the Buffalo Police Department and joined the department in 1996 and rose through the ranks, serving as an officer, lieutenant, captain and chief of B District. In 2018, Mayor Brown appointed Gramaglia as deputy commissioner where he supervises day-to-day operations and is the liaison for homeland security.
Brown also appointed Cavette Chambers as Corporation Counsel, Cathy Amdur as Commissioner of the Department of Permit & Inspection Services, and Christopher Savage as Commissioner of the Department of Parking.
The appointments have been submitted to the Common Council for approval.
"I respectfully request that the honorable Buffalo Common Council confirm these appointments expeditiously,” Mayor Brown said.
