Lancaster, N.Y. (WBEN) - A Lancaster man that admitted to sending threatening text messages to New York Attorney General Letitia James and Judge Arthur Engoron last April pled guilty to a reduced charge Monday morning after completing the requirements of a previous sentence.
27-year-old Tyler Vogel sent messages to James and Engoron on the night of March 24th, 2024 threatening "physical harm or death" if they did not comply with his demands to “cease action” in then-candidate Donald Trump's civil fraud case in New York City. Vogel obtained James' and Engoron's information by using a paid background check website.
Vogel pled guilty last April to one felony count of Making a Terroristic Threat and one misdemeanor count of Making a Threat of Mass Harm. As part of his previous plea Vogel was required to meet the requirements of state mental health court. The Erie County DA's office says Vogel completed those requirements, allowing him to plead guilty to a lesser charge of Aggravated Harassment in the Second Degree.
Vogel was sentenced Monday to a one-year conditional discharge. He has been ordered to continue receiving mental health counseling as part of his updated plea. A restraining order was also filed on behalf of James and Engoron, remaining in effect for the next five years.
