Lancaster, N.Y. (WBEN) - "I'm going to defend my town."
Many residents in the Town of Lancaster are up in arms after Buffalo Police E-District Chief Todd McAlister said teens from Lancaster were partly responsible for the chaos and violence that took place over Fourth of July Weekend in the city.
"I was completely shocked and appalled when I heard from Police Chief McAlister, how he singled out the Town of Lancaster," Lancaster Town Supervisor Bob Leary told WBEN. "I think they're deflecting. They're avoiding culpability by stoking division and bringing in a neighboring town for what happened when there's no fact to support that at this time."
Buffalo Police have not announced any arrests made in connection with the chaotic scenes that led to 11 gunshot victims in the area of East Delavan Avenue and Grider Street.
Leary told WBEN no one from the Town of Lancaster was arrested in the City of Buffalo in that time period.
He said the picture painted by Buffalo Police yesterday is the opposite of what others tell him the reality of the situation is.
"There's a lot of pressure on the suburban town police departments from gang members from the City of Buffalo coming out here, stealing cars and taking them back to the City of Buffalo, causing all sorts of problems," Leary said. "To throw this on the town of Lancaster, it's pretty shocking."
