Cheektowaga, N.Y. (WBEN) - A large, pre-planned police presence was at the Walden Galleria Mall on Thursday, which was geared towards deterring fights and other incidents from taking place at the mall on the day after Christmas.
Cheektowaga Police Cpt. Jeffrey Schmidt tells WBEN the mall was scheduled to close at 7 p.m. EST on Thursday night. This after the mall has had a history of incidents and fights break out on Boxing Day.
Cpt. Schmidt says only one person was arrested on Thursday for harassment, while a few others were arrested for shoplifting, which is typical this time of year.
There will continue to be a large police presence at the Walden Galleria throughout the rest of the holiday season in Cheektowaga.
In addition, the expansion of the parental escort policy at the mall will continue through Jan. 3.
