Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Buffalo's University District Councilman Rasheed Wyatt is looking to find a way to provide every child in the Buffalo Public School district with a Child ID kit, which could be used in the event of an emergency in case your child goes missing.

"It seems as though every other day, we have a missing kid on TV or on Facebook. It's been becoming a growing problem," said Councilman Wyatt on WBEN Wednesday morning.

The Buffalo Common Council discussed this possibility for the first time on Tuesday and are now looking into the feasibility of this plan, addressing questions such as much money it would cost and how they can coordinate it with the Buffalo Police and the Buffalo Public Schools.

These IDs would include a photo of the child, physical descriptions of the child and fingerprints.

"It actually goes back some years ago when we did have IDs that were created for children," said Wyatt. "I think we have to go back to that to help parents out in those dramatic situations. If we can go with this program, we can have a student ID for that child that's current, that has their fingerprint information, height, weight that they can give to law enforcement to try to find that child as soon as possible."

The conversations will continue as the resolution has been directed to the Buffalo Common Council Police Oversight Committee.

"We're going to invite the Board of Education in to talk about how we could do this and how it can be very practical as well as working with, I believe, a photo group that the Buffalo Board of Education currently uses that could possibly be a partner in this," said the councilman.
