Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - It is with heavy hearts in the WBEN Newsroom that we report the passing of longtime WBEN traffic and news anchor Allan Harris.

Harris, born December 17, 1947, was surrounded by family at the time of his passing after battling critical illness in recent weeks.

The legendary broadcaster was most recently known for his daily work in WBEN Traffic Command, reporting on the Buffalo commute on WBEN, WKSE and via social media platforms.

Prior to his work in Buffalo, Harris spent decades in Rochester working in radio news at WHAM and WROC, and also had a lengthy career in Rochester television news at WOKR as well.

Harris rose to prominence in Rochester in 1991, navigating the community through a paralyzing ice storm as one of the lone voices on the air on WHAM radio at the time.

Outside of work, Harris enjoyed preserving the legacy of longtime broadcasters in both Buffalo and Rochester.

Allan's popularity in the Buffalo and Rochester regions is being demonstrated by an outpouring of love and supportive messages being posted to his Facebook page, on which he frequently would post updates about his work, life and broadcasting.

Harris is survived by his daughter Laura (Rosenblitt) Champury, Richard Champury, grandchildren Lillian and Hayden Champury, son Marc Rosenblitt and brother and sister Susie Weinstein Levitz and Barry Weinstein.
