Niagara Falls, NY (WBEN) - New York State is asking schools to put masks back on.
The State Education Department and Department of Health issued a letter to school districts across the state suggesting students return to wearing masks in the classroom.
However, districts seem to be taking the letter as just that, a suggestion.
"If you feel the need to wear a mask, you may. There's no shaming, but there's also no enforcement," said Niagara Falls Superintendent Mark Laurrie. "We're beyond the mandatory stages of anything in my opinion."
"I think it's going to be fine unless that suggestion changes to a 'Must.' And I don't foresee that word 'Must' coming back."
Laurrie said that despite the "Tripledemic" headlines that have been making news, he's seeing nothing out of the ordinary when it comes to illness in his schools, which have returned to normal instruction.
