No new positive COVID tests at Maple Ave. Elementary

Superintendent says he's waiting remaining results before reopening

Maple Avenue Elementary testing

Niagara Falls, NY (WBEN) Niagara Falls Schools Superintendent Mark Laurrie says of the tests returned from Maple Avenue Elementary Monday, none came back positive for COVID19.

"We had 206 attendees at that four pop-up site. 134 are back. There are no cases that impact Maple Avenue. We are awaiting the remaining 70 or so, and that will be indicative of a decision we make about the reopening of the school," says Laurrie.

Laurrie says he'll make a decision on Tuesday, once the remaining results come back, which should be there as late as tomorrow.

Laurrie says a return to hybrid would be as early as October 19th. "I'm comfortable waiting if we have to because of the efficacy of the remote learning for the 352 students and the wonderful job the staff did. But ti's always important to bring the kids back to school," notes Laurrie.
