North Tonawanda, NY (WBEN) - The City of North Tonawanda is set to remove the sole Flock camera it has within city limits, and pause the installation of any more of the cameras.

The city council voted this week to remove the camera, which is located on the city border along Niagara Falls Boulevard and was installed by the Niagara County Sheriff. The council approved the installation of the camera just last year.

"There wasn't really a hype last year, there wasn't any protest," North Tonawanda Mayor Austin Tylec told WBEN when we asked him what changed.

"What we saw in the last few months was a lot of national attention to the misuse of these Flock cameras in other states, not in North Tonawanda, not in Niagara County," Tylec said. "It gave a reason for myself and others to revisit the topic and propose a rescission removing that resolution from last year."

That rescission passed through the Council unanimously on Tuesday.

The Sheriff's office now has 30 days to remove the camera.
