BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Masks are now optional at summer schools this year, according to revised guidance from the New York State Health Department.
NYSDOH has told schools that given the current low rates of COVID-19 transmission, schools may follow guidance similar to the interim guidance for child care, day camp, and overnight camp programs. This guidance does not require that any child wears a mask, however the state still strongly encourages it.
Daily reporting to the state's COVID-19 report card is no longer required.
Summer schools in New York can still follow the CDC's operational strategy.
The state said the revised guidelines are only available to summer session and that additional information about the 2021-2022 school year will be shared soon.
