NYS provides clarity on guidelines for weddings

(WBEN) - The state on Monday released a more in-depth guide to what will be allowed for the return of weddings and other catered events.

Governor Andrew Cuomo said that beginning March 15, weddings can resume under certain restrictions. As he said in January, venues are restricted to 50% capacity, with no more than 150 people per event, and all patrons must be tested prior to the event.

The Governor did not clarify how testing would be handled, but the New York State Department of Health clarified that venues are responsible for making sure everyone shows a negative COVID-19 test. The test can be arranged and paid for by the venue or the individual, but it is the venue's responsibility to check for proof of negative test results beforehand. Either a rapid or PCR test can be used to meet the testing requirement.

In addition to testing, venues must notify local health departments of large events and require guests to sign-in with contact information required to assist with potential contact tracing. Masks will be required at all times except when seated and eating or drinking. The state says that "ceremonial and socially-distanced dancing" is allowed, but under strict guidelines.
