Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - After joining an number of other elected officials in Washington, D.C. on Monday calling for Kimberly Cheatle to step down as director of the Secret Service, Congressman Nick Langworthy (R-NY-23) reacted to her resignation on Tuesday in light of the agency's debacle with July 13th's assassination attempt of Republican candidate for President, Donald Trump.

While appearing with David Bellavia on WBEN on Tuesday, Langworthy felt the building from where the shooter fired at Trump from was closer than many believe.

"These buildings are no more than a 9-iron shot from the podium, and you don't have to be a good golfer," said Langworthy.

Langworthy believes someone with a mediocre shot could have taken down the former U.S. President.

Langworthy says it was a dereliction of duty to not have a team on each of the three buildings' roofs.

"This should have been part of the secure perimeter," he said.

Langworthy adds the rally site was similar to a small fairgrounds.

"There was a clear and direct line of sight, and they didn't have any officers on any of those roofs," Langworthy noted.

In the end, Langworthy is glad Cheatle "finally woke up and figured out her time was short." He adds Cheatle united the Oversight Committee into calling for her resignation.
