Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) If your competitive juices are already flowing ahead of Sunday's AFC Championship Game between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs, here's a way to channel that energy.

Four animal welfare organizations from the four remaining NFL playoff cities are going head-to-head in a competition to see who can rally the most support from their communities to raise critical funds for their hometown shelter.

"This is right up there with the Puppy Bowl and the Kitten Bowl," said Gina Lattuca, Chief Communications Officer with the SPCA Serving Erie County.

"It's the Shelter Showdown. We're competing against the Great Plains SPCA in Kansas City, The Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society and Lucky Dog Animal Rescue in Washington, D.C. We're competing to see who will be crowned the ultimate fan base. With the Bills Mafia on our side, how could we say no?," asked Lattuca.

To participate and join Team SPCA in Erie County, make a donation of any amount HERE. Every dollar is a touchdown for animals in the SPCA's care.

Donations raised during the competition go directly to each shelter, supporting their lifesaving efforts and giving animals a second chance at finding their way to a loving home or back to the wild.

Lattuca was asked if the SPCA wants to be the underdog in this one ?

"I think we do," she said. "We always play up. We know that we can do this. We know we can beat Kansas City. And when it comes to Philadelphia and Washington, I know we can take them all."

It also gives the city bragging rights and good vibes for the Bills. "This is the mojo we need in winning the game," she added.

The Shelter Showdown is on until a Super Bowl champion is crowned on February 9.
