Buffalo, NY (WBEN) An Erie County Sheriff's Deputy was attacked while delivering a meal to a person incarcerated at the Erie County Holding Center. Jerry Knightner is charged in the incident.
Deputies say on Monday afternoon, a deputy holding center arrived at incarcerated individual Jerry Knightner's cell when Knightner began making verbal threats. He was ordered to sit on his bunk, and Deputies opened the door to deliver the meal. When the cell door was opened, Knightner charged a Deputy attacking him. The Deputy used defensive tactics to end the attack, and Knightner retreated into his cell.
The Deputy sustained an injury to his hand, which required medical attention.
Knightner is charged with a class-A misdemeanor obstructing governmental administration and a harassment-2nd violation.
The incarcerated individual is held at the holding center on $10,000.00 Bail or $25,000.00 bond from a December 2021 arrest for aggravated assault on a police officer and reckless endangerment.
