BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Thursday marked the official opening of Spectrum Health's Urgent Care building on Main Street in Buffalo.

Officials touted the urgent care center as a first-of-its-kind facility because it offers immediate mental health and substance abuse services to those who need it.

"No one is immune from this," Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul said at Thursday's opening. "No one should view this as a sign of weakness if you need to come here for help. You can be surrounded by people who will lead you to a road of recovery. Everyone knows that quality health care is a human right."

Spectrum Health said the stresses caused by coronavirus has had a major impact on the mental health of many in the community.

Counselors, cases managers, nurse practitioners, and other professionals will be on hand for anyone who visits the site at 1280 Main Street.

Plans for the building originally began last year and a soft opening was held in February.
