Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Supporters of several Spot Coffee workers fired, they say for trying to organize a union, rallied outside the downtown location Monday, calling for Spot to stop interfering in union busting, apologize and reinstate the fired workers or face a boycott.
Phoenix Cerny, who says he was fired from their job at Spot's Elmwood location for hosting a union meeting, said: "Any person can be fired at any time for any reason or no reason, and that's wrong. They fired me for asking the question, How could things be better? What do you want here? We just want to do our jobs, and we deserve a fundamental level of respect. We need this union because we need dignity. We deserve dignity and we deserve respect."
Ben Steele says there are some things they want from Spot management. "We do have other activity groups and unions on call, ready to boycott, but we hope to meet those demands very quickly," says Steele which include reinstatement, an apology, and an end to interference from Spot when it comes to organizing efforts.
A call to Spot Coffee management was not returned.
