Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) If there's some good news about the trade war, it might be happening on Northland Avenue in Buffalo.
The President of the Northland Workforce Training Center is encouraged by the prospect of more manufacturing returning to the US.
"We are all about manufacturing," Stephen Tucker told WBEN.
"We're taking it one day at a time. We have a full compliment of students
excited for manufacturing careers and the outlook for them is pretty positive right now."
Northland opened in 2018 and offers programs in machine tool technology, welding, and electrical engineering among
others.
Local companies, such as Moog and Tesla are hiring Northland graduates for in demand high tech jobs.
Tucker described the industry as "robust" and said the placement rate is currently 83%. "But," he said, "it could be 100%. It just depends on the student." Adding, "Most of our graduates receive multiple job offers."
Right now, Tucker estimates there are about three thousand job openings in manufacturing.
In the coming years, there are expected to be new demands.
President Trump is promising that tariffs will spark a renaissance in American manufacturing. But it could take years, to build new facilities.
Tucker said "we're ready and it's going to take all hands on deck to meet the demand that we anticipate."
