BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - In a visit to Buffalo on Wednesday, Governor Andrew Cuomo outlined what Sahlen Field will look for fans once the Toronto Blue Jays begin playing home games on April 1.
The stadium will be split into vaccinated sections and unvaccinated sections. Those who have received a vaccine will be allowed to fill the section while those who have not received a vaccine must adhere to six feet of distancing from a group.
All people attending a game must wear a mask, except when eating or drinking.
The governor also announced a new incentive to get a vaccine.
"Starting June 1, you can get a Johnson & Johnson shot at a Blue Jays game and you get a free ticket to a Bisons game next season," Cuomo said. "We would give you a free ticket to the game this season, but then you would have to go to Trenton (New Jersey) to watch the game and we don't want that."
Fans who receive a vaccine at a Blue Jays game will also be eligible to win prizes from a raffle.
Adults who have been vaccinated may want to take their child with them to the game. Because most children are currently ineligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine, the governor said they will be able to sit in the vaccinated section.
"You could theoretically be sitting next to an unvaccinated child," Cuomo said. "It's a minimal precaution but we think it's wise."
Cuomo said the separation of vaccinated and unvaccinated sections are not a "class system" because the vaccines are free to get and people who are not getting a vaccine are making that choice.
Tickets go on sale for Blue Jays games in Buffalo on May 20.
