Buffalo Police release video of shooting incident at methadone clinic

Footage shows shot fired inside and civilians assisting in detaining suspect

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - In graphic video released by the Buffalo Police Department Saturday, a suspect armed with an AR-15 is seen firing a shot inside a substance abuse treatment facility on Virginia Street Thursday, then subsequently being detained by a security guard and civilians outside the facility.

Video from inside the Alba de Vida clinic shows the suspect entering and firing a shot at the wall as a security guard struggles to detain the armed man. The exterior video shows the suspect being toppled and detained by the guard and civilians.

Jeremy Griffin, 48, was arraigned Friday on charges stemming from the shooting inside the clinic and a separate incident on Pennsylvania Avenue. Griffin faces attempted murder, weapons and reckless endangerment charges.

Erie County District Attorney John Flynn said Friday, had it not been for the actions of the guard and bystanders, "This could have been a much more tragic situation."

The AR-15 was legally purchased, according to Flynn, but an extended magazine was illegal and led to the weapons charges.
