Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - While spring has yet to officially arrive in Western New York, many throughout the region have enjoyed some early spring-like conditions in the final days of winter.
This past weekend saw temperatures hit the 70-degree mark on Friday and Sunday, while Saturday was still a very pleasant day with temperatures hitting the mid-60s.
For the final day of winter in Western New York on Wednesday, temperatures across the region are, once again, expected to reach 70 degrees, with skies remaining clear heading into the evening hours.
The nice weather has certainly got more than enough Western New Yorkers ready for a more consistent warmup and a "sayonara" to the snow.
"When it's like this, you don't want to spend any time indoors," said Maria from Williamsville. "A lot of time outside, playing around with my car, which I am a car person. I would like to garden, but I haven't started that yet. But now it's all focused on my car, washing it, and I have a car I really enjoy. So trying and make the most out of the good weather."
"I think it's more exciting when the days of these nice weather days start to become more, and less of they're teasing us with a nice day, and then it starts to snow again. So I hope that it's here to stay," said Sam from Cheektowaga. "It feels great to open your windows, get some fresh air in your house, and get outside and move your body around a little bit."
Being a Western New York native for so long, Trevis from Lakeview knows there's always the possible waves of a "fake spring" that hit the region followed by four inches of snow. However, it's always enjoyable to have the sun out.
"Whether it's hot or cold, it doesn't matter. If we've got the sun shining, it's all good in my book," said Trevis with WBEN.
With the weather getting warmer and the snow nearly gone across the region, it's getting some like Lisa from Williamsville itching to get out and start some projects this spring.
"This is the time of the year where it's just gross looking outside. My husband hates it, because I'm constantly going, 'You know, we have this project, this project, and this project we want to do, because now all the snow is melted,' and you hate how it looks out there. And you're just ready to just, 'Let's go with the next project!'" said Lisa in an interview with WBEN.
One of the to-do projects for Lisa in the coming days and weeks is to get mulching around her house.
"It feels like it gives a little face lift to your whole landscaping," she said. "And then just getting to those projects that last year; I felt like last year's weather, it didn't hit soon enough, so you just want to enjoy the summer at that point, if you don't have a spring. So we didn't do a whole lot of work last year in the yard. So now I'm hoping we have a spring, I can get that done, and then also enjoy my summer."
Maria knows she doesn't garden enough, so she's hoping to try and utilize this nice weather to get out and plan ahead for the season.
"I was hoping to try and get maybe a jump on that this year, and maybe try some planting, things like that with my sons. They kind of want to be not having to depend on the stores as much. So we're kind of looking forward to that a little more this year. I haven't started it yet, but I'm thinking about it," Maria said with WBEN.
Meanwhile, the past weekend's weather allowed Trevis to enjoy some outdoor gatherings with his family members.
"We actually had a birthday party for my son and daughter this past weekend, and we were able to enjoy some cold beverages outside in the sun on Saturday. It worked out pretty well," Trevis said. "The steaks were being grilled on Saturday also, so cheers to being able to be out in mid-March, and have the sun shining and enjoying the weather."
As for Sam, she's looking forward for some consistently warmer weather to get her kids out to the playground to have some fun.
"My kids can only watch so many episodes of Bluey inside and they're done. They're like, 'Let me go outside!'" Sam said in an interview with WBEN. "We did bubbles the other day with the really nice day, and the sun staying out longer, it just feels so good. So honestly, I can't wait to go on walks, go to the playground and just be outside, get some fresh air."
With spring right around the corner, are Western New Yorkers ready to stow away the snow shovels and put the snow brushes in the trunk?
"Oh no, I'm getting rid of all that. That's going away," Lisa exclaimed. "I don't want to look at it, I don't want to see it. That's how we'll roll."
"I don't want anything to do with the snow brush, so it's out of sight, out of mind," Maria echoed. "I don't care if it snows again, I'm definitely not going to use the brush. That's my theory on it. I think if it's not around, maybe it'll keep the snow away."
With the weather always potentially changing on a dime, Trevis says it's always good to be prepared just in case.
"I feel good with what the weather is forecasting for the next couple weeks that we should be good to go, and start with the spring activities even more so," he said.
Other like Sam will wait to confidently put away the snow brush until it reaches Easter time.
"We've, unfortunately, seen some late snow. But I would like to think that the early morning frost is as much as we're going to get moving forward," she said.
